LPGA begins its stretch run to finish 2020 season

6 of world’s top 10 will play the inaugural Pelican Women’s Championship in Florida, starting a run of 4 events in 5 weeks

6: Number of the top-10-ranked players who will be competing at the LPGA’s inaugural $ 1.5 million Pelican Women’s Championship, which begins Thursday at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. No. 1 Jin Young Ko will be making her 2020 debut on the LPGA after having remained in her native South Korea to compete on the Korean LPGA during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ko, 25, the LPGA’s 2018 rookie of the year, won two major championships last year, the ANA Inspiration and the Evian Championship, en route to a player-of-the-year season. In her most recent LPGA start, she tied for 11th at the 2019 Tour Championship to complete a four-win season. In six starts on the KLPGA this year, she posted four top 10s. The other top-10 players in the Rolex Rankings who were scheduled to compete this week: No. 2 Sei Young Kim of South Korea, No. 6 Nasa Hataoka of Japan, No. 7 Brooke Henderson of Canada, No. 8 Minjee Lee of Australia and No. 9 Sung Hyun Park of South Korea. No. 11 Lexi Thompson, a lifelong Floridian, is the highest-ranked American in the 108-player field. It will be the LPGA’s first tournament after three weeks off and begin a stretch of four tournaments in five weeks to finish the season (tee times).
