European Tour adopts unusual format for Cyprus encore

Cuts after 36 holes and 54 holes will determine a 16-man shootout for the final round in the 2nd consecutive event at Aphrodite Hills

2: Number of cuts to be made this week in the European Tour’s Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown. The event, the second consecutive tournament at the Aphrodite Hills Resort on the Mediterranean island, will feature a new format on the tour. The first 36 holes, on Thursday and Friday, will be stroke play, followed by a cut to the low 32 players and ties. Scores will be reset to zero for the third round, which will be followed by a second cut to the low 16 players and ties. Scores will be reset again for a final-round shootout on Sunday, when the low score will determine the winner. England’s Callum Shinkwin, who won last week’s inaugural Cyprus Open, will be among the favorites in the 105-man field (tee times).
