The German, a Boca Raton resident, has won twice among 8 top-10 results in 12 starts at the Champions Tour’s southeast Florida stop
8: Number of top-10 finishes, including two victories, in 12 career starts for defending champion Bernhard Langer at the Champions Tour event in his adopted hometown. The TimberTech Championship begins Friday at The Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton, Fla. Langer, 63, a native German who lives in Boca Raton, won the 2010 edition of what was known as the Allianz Championship. He has won 41 times on the 50-and-older tour, ranking second to Hale Irwin’s 45. With his victory in March at the Cologuard Classic, Langer has extended his tour-record streak to 14 consecutive seasons with one or more victories. This week’s TimberTech event was scheduled to be the second of three playoff tournaments before the coronavirus pandemic prompted a suspension of play in the spring. The event was reset for the fall and expanded to a 54-hole, full-field, 81-player tournament. Spectators will not be allowed onsite (tee times).
