Southern Californian will pair with Tiger Woods and Xander Schauffele at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks
12: Position in the Official World Golf Ranking, a career high, for Matthew Wolff, who returns to his native Southern California this week having placed runner-up in two of his past three starts on the PGA Tour. Wolff, 21, a second-year pro who grew up in Agoura Hills, finished runner-up in the U.S. Open and then tied for second three weeks later at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. However, last week, he stumbled to 73rd place in the 78-man CJ Cup at Shadow Creek. Wolff will experience a homecoming of sorts this week at the Zozo Championship, which begins Thursday at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., west of Los Angeles. However, he will have to beat another native Southern Californian who likely will feel right at home. Tiger Woods won five times at Sherwood when it hosted the World Challenge, a PGA Tour exhibition. They will be paired with San Diegan Xander Schauffele, who is No. 7 in the world, in one of the marquee groups (tee times).
