Of the 8 ranked among the world's top 50, 7 will compete in the European Tour's flagship event this week at Wentworth Club

8: Number of Englishmen ranked among the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and all but one will be competing this week at the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship. No. 14 Tommy Fleetwood will lead the English contingent on its home soil, with No. 15 Tyrrell Hatton, No. 20 Matthew Fitzpatrick, No. 23 Justin Rose, No. 42 Lee Westwood, No. 49 Danny Willett, the defending champion, and No. 50 Matt Wallace. Among the top-ranked Englishmen, only No. 21 Paul Casey, who will be competing in the PGA Tour’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, will not appear at the European Tour’s flagship event. Play begins Thursday at Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, England. American Patrick Reed, who leads the tour's Race to Dubai standings, will be grouped with Westwood and Hatton at 8:05 a.m. local time. Willett, Fleetwood and Ireland's Shane Lowry, the reigning British Open champion, will be paired together at 12:15 p.m., one group ahead of English trio Rose, Ian Poulter and Sam Horsfield (tee times).
