65: First-round score for local favorite Vitor Lopes, who led the European Tour’s Portugal Open at 7 under on Thursday in Obidos, Portugal. Lopes, 24, a Portuguese who plays the Challenge Tour, made six birdies and an eagle in his first 11 holes before pars on his final seven holes at Royal Obidos Spa and Golf Resort. He missed the cuts in his past three starts, including last week’s Portugal Masters, and hadn’t broken par in his previous six rounds. France's Damien Perrier and Spain’s Carlos Pigem shared second place with 67s. American Julian Suri was among four players tied for fourth at 68. South Africa’s George Coetzee, who won last week’s Portugal Masters, was among 11 players tied for eighth at 69. The Portugal Open, the third consecutive event on the Iberian Peninsula, is a dual-ranking event on the European and Challenge tours (scores).
