Nelly Korda opens 1-stroke lead at LPGA’s ANA Inspiration

66: First-round score for American Nelly Korda, who led the LPGA’s ANA Inspiration on Thursday in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Korda birdied two of her final three holes at Mission Hills Country Club’s Dinah Shore Tournament Course to get to 6 under and open a one-stroke lead in the second major championship of the season. Korda, 22, the No. 3-ranked player in the world and the younger sister of LPGA player Jessica Korda, is a three-time winner on the tour who is seeking her first major title. South Korean In Gee Chun, a two-time major champion, shared second place with Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom at 67. World No. 2 American Danielle Kang, who won the first two tournaments in the LPGA’s season restart, was among five players tied for fourth at 68. The temperature hit 98 in the California desert, and highs were forecast to top 100 through the weekend (scores).
