Stacy Lewis embraces return to California desert

American owns 12-for-12 record of cuts made at the LPGA’s ANA Inspiration, including a victory in 2011

12: Number of times, in as many starts, that American Stacy Lewis has made the cut at the ANA Inspiration. Lewis’ streak includes the 2011 title and five top-10 results. She will seek to extend the run of weekend play this week when the LPGA’ s annual major championship in the California desert begins Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club’s Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage. In 2007, as an amateur, Lewis tied for fifth in her debut at what was known then as the Kraft Nabisco Championship. “That week really set me up for my career,” she said. “I just get a smile on my face; I truly love it here. Such good memories from the start and just so happy when I pull in the gate. I love this event.” Last month, Lewis, 35, posted her first victory in three years when she won the Ladies Scottish Open. Because of the global coronavirus pandemic, the ANA Inspiration was moved from its customary slot in early April to this week, which means plenty of heat in the desert. The forecast highs for the week: 99 Thursday, 104 Friday, 107 Saturday and 108 Sunday (tee times).
