Shane Bertsch emerges as man to beat on Champions Tour

In only his 2nd start on the 50-and-older tour, Bertsch shoots a 2nd consecutive 7-under 64 for a 4-stroke lead in the Charles Schwab Series at Bass Pro Shops Big Cedar Lodge

64: Second consecutive score posted by American Shane Bertsch, who opened a four-stroke lead entering the final round of the Champions Tour’s Charles Schwab Series at Bass Pro Shops Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale, Mo. After a bogey-free first round in which he shot 7 under at Buffalo Ridge Golf Course, Bertsch offset two bogeys with nine birdies to emerge as the man to beat. He stood at 14-under 128. It is only the second start on the 50-and-older tour for Bertsch since he became eligible this year. Germany’s Bernhard Langer, whose 41 victories on the Champions Tour ranks second all-time, matched Bertsch’s low round of the day to join Americans Kenny Perry (65) and Wes Short Jr. (66) at 10-under 132. The tournament is the first of two 54-hole events to be played in a nine-day span at the southwest Missouri resort. The Charles Schwab Series at Ozarks National will be played Aug. 24-26 (scores).
