Americans match bogey-free 7-under 64s in 1st round of Charles Schwab Series, the 1st of 2 straight events at Big Cedar Lodge
64: Scores for co-leaders Tom Lehman and Shane Bertsch, who led Thursday after the first round of the Champions Tour’s Charles Schwab Series at Bass Pro Shops Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale, Mo. Lehman and Bertsch, both Americans, matched bogey-free, 7-under cards to open a two-stroke lead at Buffalo Ridge Golf Course. Lehman, who started play on the back nine, birdied four of his final six holes. Lehman, 61, won five times on the PGA Tour, including the 1996 British Open, and added 12 victories on the Champions Tour. Bertsch, who turned 50 on March 30, was making his second start on the 50-and-older tour. He did not win in 194 career starts on the PGA Tour but was a three-time winner on the forerunner to today’s Korn Ferry Tour. The tournament is the first of two 54-hole events to be played in a nine-day span at the southwest Missouri resort. The Charles Schwab Series at Ozarks National will be played Aug. 24-26 (scores).
