England’s David Howell, a 5-time winner on the European Tour, and Australia’s Min Woo Lee, who won earlier this year in his homeland, headline a group at 7-under 64
6: Number of players tied for the lead Thursday after the first round of the European Tour’s English Championship. England’s Laurie Canter and David Howell, Australia’s Min Woo Lee and Jason Scrivener, Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent and Belgium’s Thomas Detry shot 7-under 64s at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Ware, England. Scrivener was the only one among the six co-leaders who played bogey-free golf, and Canter had the most adventurous round: two eagles, six birdies, two bogeys and a deflating double bogey at the 17th hole. Only Howell, with five victories but none since 2013, and Lee, who won the ISPS Handa Vic Open in February, have won on the tour. The tournament is the third stop on the six-event U.K. Swing being played in Britain (scores).
