In his 3rd season on tour, Englishman edges Belgium’s Thomas Detry to win Hero Open for his 1st tour title
1: Number of victories on the European Tour for England’s Sam Horsfield, who won the Hero Open on Sunday in Birmingham, England. It was his first title in his third season and 65th start on tour. Horsfield shot 4-under 68 in the final round at Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club for an 18-under 270 total and one-stroke victory. Belgium’s Thomas Detry, who held the lead after a birdie on No. 17, his second consecutive birdie, missed a short par putt on the 18th hole to open the door for Horsfield. Detry closed with a 6-under 66 for a 17-under 271 total. Horsfield, 23, a former college player at Florida, won the European Tour’s 2017 Q-School to earn his place on the big tour. The Hero Open was the second of six events on the tour’s U.K. Swing of the revised schedule (scores).
