American builds on consistent play during 2020 restart as he seeks his 1st victory in his 99th start spanning 4 seasons on the PGA Tour
63: First-round score for American Richy Werenski, who opened a one-stroke lead Thursday at the PGA Tour’s 3M Open in Blaine, Minn. Werenski tapped in for birdie at the par-5 18th at TPC Twin Cities to cap an 8-under round. Werenski, 28, a Massachusetts native who played college golf at Georgia Tech, is looking for his first victory in his 99th start spanning four seasons on the PGA Tour. He has made four cuts in as many starts since the season restarted last month, but with no finish better than a T-21 in Detroit during that stretch. American Michael Thompson posted a bogey-free 7-under 64 to take solo second place. Defending champion Matthew Wolff and No. 17-ranked Tony Finau, both of the U.S., were among seven players sharing third at 65 (scores).
