Scotsman posts bogey-free 7-under round highlighted by 5 consecutive birdies to open 1-stroke lead at European Tour's 1st event on 6-tournament U.K. Swing
64: First-round score for David Law, whose 7-under total led the European Tour’s Betfred British Masters on Wednesday in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. Law played a bogey-free round, highlighted by seven birdies in eight holes in the middle of his round, including five in a row, on Nos. 6-10, at Close House Golf Club. Law, 29, a two-time Scottish Amateur champion who turned professional in 2011, is looking for his second victory on the European Tour. He had missed four consecutive cuts before coronavirus suspended the season in March. “It was a nice time for me, because I wasn't playing the best going into that break, so it was a good time to recharge and reboot,” he said. England’s Oliver Fisher and Garrick Porteous shared second place with Italy’s Renato Paratore at 6-under 65. The tournament is the first of six consecutive events on the U.K. Swing that will keep players close to the tour's home in England (scores).
