17: Number of starts on the PGA Tour before rookie Viktor Hovland won his first tournament, the Puerto Rico Open. Hovland, 22, of Norway, shot 2-under 70 on Sunday for a 20-under 268 total and one-stroke victory at Coco Beach Golf and Country Club in Rio Grande. He became the first PGA Tour winner from Norway. Hovland, who played college golf at Oklahoma State, became the fourth U.S. Amateur champion to win on the PGA Tour before turning 23, joining Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and David Gossett. He also was the first rookie to win on Tour in the 2019-20 season. Hovland, who led after 36 and 54 holes, had to withstand some final-round drama after he made a triple-bogey 6 at the 11th hole. He rallied with an eagle at the par-5 15th and then birdied the par-5 18th to edge American Josh Teater (69), whose solo second place was his best finish on Tour. Americans Sam Ryder (69) and Kyle Stanley (68) and Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo (70) shared third place (scores).
