2 Mexicans earn prime spots at WGC Mexico

Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz, who rank 23rd and 24th, respectively, in the PGA Tour’s season standings, will be paired with some of the game’s top stars this week in Mexico City

2: Number of Mexicans among the top 25 in the FedEx Cup standings entering the WGC Mexico Championship, which begins Thursday at Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City. Abraham Ancer ranks 23rd in the PGA Tour’s season points standings, and Carlos Ortiz stands 24th. Both will be among the featured pairings for the first two rounds of play in front of a home crowd. Ancer will be paired with Dustin Johnson, the WGC Mexico defending champion, and Italy’s Francesco Molinari; Ortiz will play with Spain’s Jon Rahm and Australia’s Adam Scott, who won last week at Riviera (tee times).
