Stars turn out for Tiger Woods and Riviera

9 of the world’s top-10-ranked players will compete in the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in suburban Los Angeles for the final event on the West Coast Swing

9: Number of the Official World Golf Ranking’ s top 10 who are entered at the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational, which begins Thursday at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Among the top 10, only Webb Simpson, who won two weeks ago at the Phoenix Open, is not entered in the fifth and final event on the West Coast Swing. Host Tiger Woods, who is No. 8 in the world and whose TGR Foundation will benefit from tournament proceeds, will be paired with No. 4-ranked Justin Thomas and Steve Stricker, this year’s Ryder Cup captain and the 2010 winner at Riviera. Woods is making his second attempt at a record-breaking 83rd career PGA Tour victory. The other power pairing for the first two rounds will feature Rory McIlroy, who recently returned to No. 1 in the world ranking, with No. 5 Dustin Johnson, the 2017 winner at Riviera, and No. 6 Patrick Cantlay (tee times).
