Champions Tour returns to Naples for 33rd year

Longest-running senior event in same metro area will feature 6 hall-of-famers, including 3-time winner Bernhard Langer

33: Number of years that the Champions Tour has competed in or near Naples, Fla., the site of this week’s Chubb Classic at The Classic of Lely Resort. The 54-hole tournament, which begins Friday, is the longest-running event in the same metropolitan area on the 50-and-older tour. In the past 32 editions in southwest Florida, the tournament has been won 12 times by members of the World Golf Hall of Fame, led by three-time winner Bernhard Langer. Six hall-of-famers are entered in this year’s event, which begins Friday: two-time Chubb winner Fred Couples, Retief Goosen, Langer, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie and Mark O’Meara (tee times).
