American enters Genesis Invitational on strength of consecutive 3rd-place finishes
5: Number of consecutive weeks that American Phil Mickelson will have competed when he tees it up this week at the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational, the fifth and final event on the West Coast Swing. After back-to-back missed cuts at the American Express and the Farmers Insurance Open, Mickelson posted consecutive third-place finishes at the European Tour’s Saudi International and the recent AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Mickelson will be paired with fellow Americans Brooks Koepka and Bubba Watson, a three-time winner at Riviera, when play begins Thursday in Pacific Palisades, Calif., according to the featured groups announced Monday. The full pairings will be released by Wednesday. Though Mickelson has returned to the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking, at No. 55, he said that he intends to skip next week’s WGC Mexico Championship.
