63: First-round score for Canadian Stephen Ames, who opened a four-stroke lead Thursday in the Morocco Champions, the Champions Tour’s inaugural event in the north African nation. Ames birdied two of his final three holes at Samanah Golf Club in Marrakech to cap a 9-under round. He played the four par 5s in 5 under, highlighted by an eagle on the fifth hole. Ames, 55, a four-time winner on the PGA Tour, has won once on the 50-and-older circuit. Four members of the World Golf Hall of Fame shared second place at 5-under 67: Retief Goosen, Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie and Jose Maria Olazabal. The 54-hole, 66-man event is scheduled to conclude Saturday (scores).
