Bernhard Langer grabs familiar spot atop leaderboard

62-year-old German, a 40-time winner on Champions Tour, shares lead with Miguel Angel Jimenez in season opener in Hawaii

64: First-round scores for co-leaders Bernhard Langer of Germany and Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain in the Champions Tour’s season-opening Mitsubushi Electric Championship in Hawaii. Both capped 8-under rounds with birdies on the par-4 18th hole at Hualalai Golf Course in Kailua-Kona. Langer, 62, a two-time Masters champion, is seeking his 41st victory on the 50-and-older tour. Hale Irwin holds the tour’s all-time lead, with 45. American Woody Austin trailed by one stroke. South African Ernie Els, a four-time major champion who was making his Champions Tour debut after turning 50 in October, shot par 72 (scores).
