Hawaii victory vaults Cameron Smith to 31st in world

Aussie improves 23 spots after winning Sony Open in a playoff

31: Position for Cameron Smith in the Official World Golf Ranking, an improvement of 23 spots, after he won the PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawaii late Sunday in a sudden-death playoff with American Brendan Steele. Smith, 26, a two-time winner on Tour, was ranked as high as 24th early last year. Also, South Africa’s Branden Grace jumped to 73rd from 129th after winning the European Tour’s South African Open, and Australia’s Wade Ormsby improved to No. 144 from No. 228 after winning the Asian Tour’s Hong Kong Open. The event had been rescheduled from the fall to early in 2020, resulting in a loss of sponsorship by the European Tour, because of civil unrest in Hong Kong. The top 10 in the OWGR remained unchanged, with American Brooks Koepka atop the world order for the 35th consecutive week.
