Braden Thornberry, Tag Ridings lead Korn Ferry Q-School

Tommy ‘Two Gloves’ Gainey follows prostitution arrest with 6-under 66 for share of 3rd place after 1st round

7: Number of strokes under par for co-leaders Braden Thornberry and Tag Ridings after the first round Thursday at the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament in Winter Garden, Fla. Thornberry shot 7-under 65 at Orange County National’s Crooked Cat course, and Ridings posted a 7-under 64 at OCN’s Panther Lake course. Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey, who was arrested earlier in the week on suspicion of soliciting a prostitute as part of a law-enforcement sting in adjacent Polk County, shot 6-under 66 at Crooked Cat. He was among six players tied for third. The winner of the four-day, 72-hole event will be fully exempt for the 2020 season on the PGA Tour’s top developmental circuit. Finishers 2-10 (and ties) will secure starts for the first 12 events of the regular season. Finishers 11-40 (and ties) will secure entry into the first eight events. All 154 competitors have secured at least conditional status for next year (scores / tee times).

19: Number of consecutive years in the 31-year history that the QBE Shootout will have been played at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla., when the unofficial PGA Tour team event begins Friday. The 54-hole, three-day event features 12 two-person teams. Lexi Thompson, who will be paired with Sean O’Hair, is the lone female competitor (tee times).
