Wiesberger jumps to No. 22 with Italian Open victory

Houston winner Lanto Griffin also improves in rankings, to 108th

22: Position in the Official World Golf Ranking for Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger, who improved 14 spots to a career high after he won the European Tour’s Italian Open. It was the third victory of the year for Wiesberger, who ended 2018 at No. 185. American Lanto Griffin moved to No. 108, a jump of 68 spots, after he won the Houston Open for his first victory on the PGA Tour. Griffin ended last year at No. 395. After he tied for seventh in the Korn Ferry Tour Championship on Sept. 2, Griffin has posted five consecutive top-20 results in his return to the PGA Tour after having failed to keep his card during the 2017-18 season.

66: Score for American Jill McGill, who surged to a four-stroke lead after the first round of the Senior LPGA Championship at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick (Ind.) Resort. McGill, who posted three runner-up finishes in a non-winning LPGA career, offset two bogeys with eight birdies in her 6-under round. Americans Moira Dunn-Bohls and Rosie Jones shared second at 2-under 70. The Senior LPGA is the third and final major championship of the year for female golfers ages 45 and older (scores).
