Houston Open attracts only 2 of world's top 50 players

No. 37 Henrik Stenson will be highest-ranked player at PGA Tour event that begins today at Golf Club of Houston

2: Number of players among the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking who will be competing at the PGA Tour’s Houston Open, which begins today at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, at No. 37, and American Keegan Bradley, at No. 43, are the only top-50 competitors. They are among five former major champions entered: Rich Beem (2002 PGA), Bradley (2011 PGA), Stewart Cink (2009 British Open), Jason Dufner (2013 PGA) and Stenson (2016 British Open) (tee times).

8: Number of times that Italians have won the Italian Open, which begins today at Olgiata Golf Club in Rome. Two-time champion Francesco Molinari, who won his national open in 2006 and 2016, will be among the favorites this week in an event that dates to 1925 and has been part of the European Tour’s schedule since the tour was founded in 1972 (tee times).

17: Number of consecutive weeks that American Scott McCarron has led the Champions Tour’s money list entering the SAS Championship, which begins Friday at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C. Because McCarron, a three-time winner this season on the 50-and-older tour, leads by $478,680, which is more than this week’s $315,000 top prize, he will enter the three-event playoffs as the top-ranked player (tee times).
