PGA TOUR Champions Join Top Juniors from The First Tee at Pebble Beach for Pure Insurance Championship, Airing Friday-Sunday on GOLF Channel

ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 24, 2019) – The PGA TOUR is in Northern California for the Safeway Open, with Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Francesco Molinari leading the field. On the European Tour, professionals will play alongside celebrity amateur golfers at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Jon Rahm lead the field of professionals competing at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingbarns in Scotland, with Justin Timberlake headlining the list of celebrity amateurs taking part in the event. The LPGA Tour is in Indiana for the Indy Women in Tech Championship, where world No. 2 Sung Hyun Park will defend her 2018 title. The PGA TOUR Champions are at Pebble Beach, where they’ll be joined by top junior golfers from First Tee chapters around the United States.

Miller scheduled to join Sunday’s final round telecast: Safeway Open tournament host – and former NBC Sports lead golf analyst – Johnny Miller is scheduled to join GOLF Channel’s broadcast booth during the network’s live telecast of Sunday’s final round.

Tway defends: Kevin Tway birdied the third playoff hole to outlast Ryan Moore and Brandt Snedeker for his first-career PGA TOUR win.

Event format: Professionals and amateurs compete as two-person teams and play one round each at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. A 54-hole cut is made to the low-60 professionals (and ties) and the low-20 teams, with the final round being contested at St Andrews on Sunday.

Bjerregaard defends: Lucas Bjerregaard finished one stroke ahead of Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton to capture his second European Tour victory.

Thompson to be featured in “Who’s Really In Control”: During Thursday’s opening round coverage, Lexi Thompson and her caddie will be featured in “Who’s Really In Control,” sponsored by National Car Rental, where Thompson will try to match answers to questions posed to her caddie about her interests and habits on Tour.

Park defends: Sung Hyun Park defeated Lizette Salas with a birdie on the first playoff hole to earn her fifth LPGA win, and third of 2018.

Event format: PGA TOUR Champions professionals will play alongside a junior golfer from the First Tee and two additional amateur golfers. Groups will compete in one round on each of the two courses over the first two days. Twenty-three teams of professionals/juniors and 10 two-player amateur teams will take part in the final round on Sunday at Pebble Beach.

Tanigawa defends: Ken Tanigawa made a 35-foot putt for eagle on the 18th hole on Sunday to finish one shot ahead of Marco Dawson and Kirk Triplett to earn his first PGA TOUR Champions win.
