FIELD OF 1,120 AMATEURS SET TO COMPETE AT GOLF CHANNEL AM TOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, SEPT. 17-26
Culmination of More than 700 Events in 2019 Hosted by Golf Courses at Famed PGA National Resort & Spa
ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 10, 2019) – A year of competition, highlighted by more than 6,000 amateur golfers of all ages and skill levels who competed across 700 tournaments in 2019, will culminate Sept. 17-26 at the GOLF Channel Am Tour National Championships at Florida’s famed PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens.
The GOLF Channel Am Tour National Championships are divided into two events – Open National Championship, Sept. 17-20, and Senior National Championship (ages 55+), Sept. 23-26. Each player in the field will compete on all four courses in the rotation: The Champion, redesigned by Jack Nicklaus and host of the Honda Classic each spring on the PGA TOUR – also home to the famous Bear Trap, spanning holes 15-17; The Fazio, designed by George and Tom Fazio and a tribute to five-time PGA Champion Walter Hagen; The Squire, named after Gene Sarazen and considered the “thinking man’s course” for the ultimate test of accuracy and precision; and The Palmer, named after designer Arnold Palmer and one of the more forgiving at PGA National from tee to green.
The format for both the open and senior division championships is a 72-hole, individual stroke-play competition with no cut. Twelve competitors in six flights – six from the senior division and six from the open division – will be crowned national champions in official awards ceremonies immediately following the conclusion of their respective tournaments.
Competitors will have the opportunity to meet several NBC Sports/GOLF Channel on-air personalities during the Championships, including Rich Lerner (Senior), Lauren Thompson (Open) and Alexandra O’Laughlin (Open and Senior).
The PGA National Resort & Spa will serve as the host hotel for the competitors and their families. Former host venues for the GOLF Channel Am Tour National Championships have included the Westin Mission Hills (2018, 2017), Innisbrook Resort (2016), PGA West (2009, 2011, 2013, 2015), Grayhawk Golf Club (2014), and TPC Sawgrass (2010, 2012).
GOLF Channel Am Tour offers an authentic, golf tour-quality experience for players of all ages and abilities, as well as an opportunity to compete on top golf courses in your area and around the country and against golfers of similar skill level.
