NBC to televise 3-day celebrity event


Celebrating the Tournament’s 30th Anniversary, MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL Hall of Famers Join Current Athletes and Entertainment Personalities in the 93-Player Field

Comprehensive Coverage of the Nation’s Premier Celebrity Golf Tournament Highlighted Across NBCUniversal Platforms, Including TODAY and CNBC

ORLANDO, Fla., July 2, 2019 — NBC Sports Group next week will provide comprehensive on-air and digital coverage of the nation’s premier celebrity golf tournament, the American Century Championship, celebrating its 30th anniversary and taking place at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe. A field of 93 participants from the world of sports and entertainment will compete in the three-day tournament, one of the longest-running made for television events. NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) will air the opening round on Friday, July 12 in primetime from 10 p.m.-Midnight ET, followed by coverage on NBC Saturday and Sunday, July 13-14 from 3-6 p.m. ET.


STEPHEN CURRY, TONY ROMO AND JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE HEADLINE STAR-STUDDED CELEBRITY FIELD: Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry, Grammy Award-winning musician Justin Timberlake and four-time NFL Pro-Bowler / CBS Sports NFL analyst and defending champion Tony Romo headline the star-studded field at the American Century Championship. Curry, who finished 4th in both 2013 and 2017, will be making his seventh appearance. Timberlake will be making his fourth appearance, and Romo, who captured the title in 2018 after finishing second three times (2009-11), will be making his sixth appearance.

Joining them in the 93-player field are eight Pro Football Hall-of-Famers including Marcus Allen, Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Terrell Davis, Jerry Rice, Brian Urlacher, Charles Woodson and Steve Young; six MLB Hall-of-Famers including Tom Glavine, Trevor Hoffman, Greg Maddux, Ivan Rodriguez, Ozzie Smith and John Smoltz; Basketball Hall-of-Famers Ray Allen and Charles Barkley; NHL Hall-of-Famer Mike Modano and actors/comedians Larry the Cable Guy, Alfonso Ribeiro, Rob Riggle and Ray Romano. DYLAN DREYER, KIRA KAZANTSEV, KATHRYN TAPPEN AND LISA CORNWELL IN FIELD: NBC’s TODAY host and meteorologist Dylan Dreyer and GOLF Channel host / 2015 Miss America Kira Kazantsev are making their American Century Championship debuts, joining NBC Sports’ Kathryn Tappen and GOLF Channel’s Lisa Cornwell as the female competitors in the American Century Championship field. Dreyer also is scheduled to report for TODAY on-site from Edgewood Tahoe during the week.

18 FIRST-TIME PARTICIPANTS: 18 first-time participants will be competing in the American Century Championship, including Josh Allen, Jay Bilas, Andy Dalton, Dylan Dreyer, Kyle Fuller, Kira Kazantsev, Travis Kelce, Anthony Lynn, Joe Mauer, Matt Nagy, Jordy Nelson, Kyle Rudolph, Tyler Seguin, Shane Victorino, Mike Vrabel, Eric Weddle, Kyle Williams and Jerry Woods.

NBC SPORTS GROUP / NBCUNIVERSAL COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE: The networks within NBC Sports Group and NBCUniversal television and digital properties will provide week-long comprehensive coverage of the American Century Championship.

TODAY AND CNBC AT AMERICAN CENTURY CHAMPIONSHIP: In addition to Dreyer contributing to TODAY, CNBC’s Squawk Box will provide complementary coverage at the American Century Championship. with Dominic Chu contributing on-site on Thursday.

NBC SPORTS REGIONAL NETWORKS AND NBC LOCAL AFFILIATES SURROUND COVERAGE: Leading up to Friday’s opening round, NBC Sports Regional Networks and NBC affiliates across the country will prepare viewers for live coverage with interviews from Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course with players in the field Wednesday-Friday.

EXPANDED DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA COVERAGE: Conor Moore, known for his impressions of the biggest stars in sports and entertainment, will contribute to GOLF Channel and NBC Sports’ digital and social platforms throughout the week on-site at the American Century Championship. Joining Moore will be social media correspondent Nikki Bondura (Nikki B.), delivering behind-the-scenes content from Edgewood Tahoe throughout the week. NBCSN and NBC tournament coverage also will integrate social media during its telecasts Friday-Sunday, incorporating social media posts from celebrities, athletes and fans using the hashtag #ACCGolf.

NBC Sports’ coverage of the American Century Championship will be streamed via GOLF Digitaland as well as on the GOLF Channel app and the NBC Sports app. The official tournament website – – will be a one-stop shop for videos, photos and live scoring. NBC BROADCAST TEAM: Host Steve Sands and analyst Peter Jacobsen will anchor coverage from the 18th tower at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. They will be joined by Jimmy Roberts in an outer tower position, along with Notah Begay and Charlie Rymer reporting from inside the ropes. Heather Cox will conduct interviews with celebrities and athletes from the picturesque par-3 17th hole at Edgewood Tahoe.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT: Tournament scoring is based on a modified Stableford format with 10 points for a double eagle, 8 for a hole-in-one, 6 for eagle, 3 for birdie, 1 for par, 0 for bogey, and minus 2 for double-bogey or higher. The celebrities will play 54-holes over the 6,846-yard lakeside course at Edgewood.
