ORLANDO, Fla. “Turning Stone is a wonderful success story, which has become a world-class travel destination and should be on everybody’s buddy trip bucket-list, for sure,” said Ginella. “Everything here is built around the experience.”

Established in 1993 through the vision of Oneida Nation Enterprises CEO Ray Halbritter, Turning Stone Resort features first-class lodging, fine and casual dining options and a $25 million entertainment mega-plex, as well as world-class golf. Ginella showcases Turning Stone’s three golf courses, which boast designs by three of the game’s most sought-after architects: Tom Fazio (Atunyote), Rick Smith (Shenendoah) and Robert Trent Jones Jr. (Kaluhyat). The resort also features an indoor golf facility where guests can practice both their long and short games.

Joining Ginella on the Jones Jr.-designed Kaluhyat course is Boeheim, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and the head basketball coach at Syracuse University since 1976. A long-time golfer, Boeheim played for the first time at age 5 with cut-down clubs made by his father. Ginella points out the little-known fact that Boeheim first coached golf at Syracuse for five years before becoming an assistant coach in basketball, but still says he would rather have to make a free throw than a three-foot putt. “Tells you something about my game,” Boeheim said.

When asked about his experiences at Turning Stone, Boheim continues, “I tell people if you want to go someplace for a golf trip, you won’t find a better place. He’s (Halbritter) unrivaled in that area. He cares about the land and his people. Three great golf courses, a world class lodge and hotel and gaming, he’s made everything first class.”

GOLF Advisor Getaways provide opportunities for individuals and groups to travel with Ginella and other GOLF Advisor personalities to the destinations featured on the GOLF Advisor Round Trip series.
