Potomac Shores GC faces renovations

Dumfries, Va. (April 3, 2018) – Potomac Shores Golf Club, the award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature design in Dumfries, Virginia, will begin major course upgrades in July 2018 that will improve grass and soil conditions as well as the overall guest experience. Troon’s agronomy team will lead the project, which will be completed in two phases – re-grassing fairways and bunker renovations.

Phase one of the course improvement project will begin in July and will focus on replacing the current bent grass fairways with Latitude 36 Bermudagrass. Latitude 36 Bermudagrass, a new variety of Bermudagrass developed at Oklahoma State University in recent years, thrives in the Mid-Atlantic region, has a high traffic tolerance and exceptional visual appeal. The course will temporarily close while the fairways are being re-grassed and will reopen on Labor Day weekend. Phase two will begin in mid-October and will center on bunker renovations. The golf course will remain open during the bunker renovation project, which is expected to be completed in December 2018.

Throughout the on-course upgrades, Potomac Shores’ 8,000-square-foot clubhouse, which features function space, a restaurant and lounge, will remain open for regular business and will continue to host weddings and other social events.

Potomac Shores Golf Club opened for daily-fee play in May of 2014. Upon opening in 2014, the Troon Golf-managed facility was named one of the “Best New Courses” in the U.S. by Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine and is currently ranked among the “Top Courses You Can Play” in Virginia by GolfWeek magazine.

“We have the unwavering commitment of the developer to be the premier golf residential community in the region,” said Todd Van Meer, PGA, director of club operations, Potomac Shores Golf Club. “Our goal is to deliver an unforgettable golf experience for our residents and guests – these course improvements will allow us to deliver on that promise.”

Located just 30 minutes south of Washington, D.C., Potomac Shores Golf Club is the centerpiece of the Potomac Shores community being developed by SunCal, one of the largest real estate development companies in the U.S. that specializes in large-scale, mixed-use master-planned communities. Potomac Shores covers 1,920 acres and features nearly two miles of shoreline, 1,000 acres of preserved hardwood forests and streams and traditional Virginia Tidewater architectural designs. This transit-oriented development is planned for a mixed-use town center, a new VRE commuter rail station, a waterfront village and a corporate campus. Its master plan also includes two public schools, multiple sports fields, 10 miles of trails and over 3,800 residences. The community offers the 13,000 square-foot Shores Club, a private recreation and fitness complex, and has sold over 600 new homes.
