EXCEL Leadership Program names 8 assistant golf course superintendents for 3rd year

Funded by Nufarm, GCSAA program offers training, education specific to assistants

Lawrence, Kan. (March 3, 2020) – Eight assistant superintendent members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) have been chosen for the third class of the EXCEL Leadership Program, which is funded by Nufarm and administered by GCSAA’s philanthropic organization, the Environmental Institute for Golf.

EXCEL offers leadership training for personal, career and community/industry stewardship exclusively for assistant superintendents. The name EXCEL represents the education, cross training, community, encouragement and leadership development that the program provides.The program features two, three-day training sessions and a trip to the annual Golf Industry Show each year of the three-year program cycle per class member. The 2020 Golf Industry Show took place Jan. 25-30 in Orlando. The class will also participate in National Golf Day in Washington, D.C., this year.

“Assistant superintendents are the upcoming leaders in the industry,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “I applaud the members of the EXCEL program’s third class for their efforts to advance their careers, and I enjoyed meeting them in Orlando.”

The new members of the 2020 EXCEL Leadership Program are:

· Aaron Butler of Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest, Ill.

· Kyle Gentry of Pinehurst #2 at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C.

· Carey Hofner of The Club at Cordillera in Edwards, Colo.

· Kendra Kiss of Magna Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario, Canada

· Mark Lyon of Teton Pines Resort and Country Club in Jackson, Wyo.

· Evan McFadden of Broken Top Club in Bend, Ore.

· Nicholas Mortara of Richter Park Golf Course in Danbury, Conn.

· Billy Schmohl of Glenwild Golf Club and Spa in Park City, Utah
