Golf Channel to televise in primetime PGA Tour's 1st event in Japan

ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2019) – The PGA TOUR stages the inaugural ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP, which will represent the first-ever official TOUR event in Japan. Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas headline the strong field of 78 players competing in the 72-hole, no cut event. The LPGA Tour also continues its Asia swing with the BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea, with world No. 1 Jin Young Ko leading the field. The European Tour hosts the Portugal Masters, where Tom Lewis will defend his 2018 title. Next week (Monday-Wednesday), the fifth annual East Lake Cup will be staged in Atlanta, where the top-finishers in the NCAA Division I Golf Championships will reconvene in an event format that is modeled after the NCAAs. Live coverage will air on GOLF Channel from 3-6 p.m. ET each day.

Fifth annual East Lake Cup: This year marks the fifth consecutive edition of the East Lake Cup, a competition featuring top-performing teams from both the 2019 women’s and men’s NCAA Division I Golf Championships.
Golf Central on-site at East Lake: Complementing live tournament coverage Monday-Wednesday, Golf Central will include reports and dedicated segments from East Lake Golf Club, led by GOLF Channel reporter Chantel McCabe, previewing and recapping each day of the competition.
Event format: The event format is modeled after the NCAA Championship, with the first day of competition utilizing a stroke-play format to determine seeding for match play competition on Tuesday-Wednesday. Tuesday will consist of semifinal matches across both the men’s and women’s divisions, and Wednesday will include championship and consolation matches.
Field: The East Lake Cup is comprised of teams that were extended an invitation by virtue of advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA Golf Championships earlier this year. The women’s field includes the University of Arizona, Auburn University, Duke University and Wake Forest University. On the men’s side, the teams competing will be Oklahoma State University, the University of Texas, Vanderbilt University and Wake Forest University.
