American Lexi Thompson, who won in 2014 at Mission Hills, will be among featured groups for LPGA’s 1st major championship of year
Announced: By the LPGA, the first- and second-round pairings for the ANA Inspiration, the first major championship of the year on the women’s tour. Play begins Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club’s Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Lexi Thompson, who won what was then known as the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2014, returns to the desert on the strength of two runners-up in her past three starts. The 26-year-old American, an 11-time winner on the LPGA who stands sixth in the Rolex Rankings, has not won in 22 months. She will be paired with two other past champions of the ANA, South Korea’s So Yeon Ryu (2017) and American Brittany Lincicome (2009, 2015), in the 7:54 a.m. PDT group on the 10th tee. The Nos. 1 and 2 players in the world, South Koreans Jin Young Ko and Inbee Park, respectively, will be paired with American Stacy Lewis at 12:33 p.m. on No. 1. All are past champions at the ANA: Ko in 2019, Park in 2013 and Lewis in 2011. South Korea’s Mirim Lee, the ANA’s defending champion, will be paired with American Austin Ernst, who won the LPGA Drive On title last month, and Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn, a two-time major champion, at 1:06 p.m. on the No. 1 tee.
