2021 Genesis Invitational: Daniel Berger withdraws

Recent Pebble Beach winner pulls out of Riviera stop, which still will feature 8 of world’s top 10 players

Withdrew: Daniel Berger, from this week’s Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour announced early Tuesday. No reason was cited. Berger won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Sunday for his fourth career victory as he improved to No. 13 in the world ranking. He would have been part of an outstanding field this week at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., that nonetheless still will feature eight of the world’s top-10-ranked players. Because the $9.3 million event is an invitational, Berger was not be replaced in the field, which now numbers 120 competitors. However, when Andy Ogletree, the 2019 U.S. Amateur champion, withdrew late Tuesday with an undisclosed injury, Tim Widing, a Swedish graduate student at the University of San Francisco, was added from the alternates' list. The Genesis Invitational is the final stop on the five-tournament West Coast Swing of the PGA Tour’s schedule.
