North Carolina native, who played college golf at UNC Chapel Hill, will lead Americans at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte
Introduced: Davis Love III, as captain of the 2022 U.S. Presidents Cup team, PGA Tour officials announced Tuesday morning. Love, 56, competed in six Presidents Cups, compiling a 16-8-4 record, before serving as an assistant captain on three U.S. teams. During those nine biennial matches against the Internationals, the Americans compiled a 7-1-1 record. The 2022 matches, scheduled for Sept. 22-25 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., will be a homecoming of sorts for Love. He was born in Charlotte, though he was raised in Georgia, and played college golf at UNC Chapel Hill. He won three of his 21 PGA Tour titles in North Carolina: At Greensboro in 1992, 2006 and 2015. Love also will bring plenty of Ryder Cup experience to the U.S. team. He competed in six Ryder Cups and captained the 2012 and 2016 teams, going 1-1 as the team boss. Quail Hollow has played host to the PGA Tour’s annual Wells Fargo Championship since 2003 and was the site of the 2017 PGA Championship, won by Justin Thomas. Trevor Immelman will captain the International team. The Americans lead the series, 11-1-1.
