No reason cited for why world’s No. 2-ranked player pulls out of 1st event on PGA Tour's annual West Coast Swing
Withdrew: Jon Rahm, from this week’s American Express, according to the PGA Tour’s updated field list late Monday. Rahm’s WD first was reported by GolfChannel.com’s Brentley Romine. Rahm, who is ranked No. 2 in the world, won what was then the CareerBuilder Challenge title in 2018 and was the betting favorite entering the week at PGA West’s Stadium Course in La Quinta, Calif. No reason for his withdrawal was cited. Rahm and his wife, Kelley, announced in late November that they were expecting their first child. They live in Scottsdale, Ariz., and both attended nearby Arizona State. Rahm tied for seventh two weeks ago at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and did not play in the recent Sony Open in Hawaii. He won twice in 2020 after the season restart: at the Memorial and at the BMW Championship. Rahm was replaced in the 156-man field for the $6.7 million event by Brandon Hagy.
