Americans Collin Morikawa and Webb Simpson will be part of a featured 3-ball for Thursday’s 1st round at Waialae Country Club
Paired: Americans Collin Morikawa and Webb Simpson, the only top-10-ranked players in the world who will be competing in this week’s Sony Open in Hawaii, for the first two rounds. Morikawa, the reigning PGA champion who is No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and Simpson, a two-time winner in 2020 who stands No. 8, will join Australia’s Marc Leishman in the 12:30 p.m. HST pairing off the first tee Thursday at Honolulu’s Waialae Country Club (tee times). Simpson was the betting favorite, at 12-1. The tournament also features defending champion Cameron Smith of Australia and American Harris English, who won last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions. The Sony Open, which has been played at Waialae since 1965, will be the second of two consecutive PGA Tour events in Hawaii before the circuit heads to the mainland and the start of the West Coast Swing next week.
