Augusta National Golf Club prepares for an edition unlike any other with the Masters Tournament reset for November
The final major championship of the 2020 men’s season will be played in November in yet another reminder of what an extraordinarily odd year it has been in golf.
The Masters, traditionally held during the second week of April, will be played Nov. 12-15 because of the global coronavirus pandemic. The event will return to Augusta National Golf Club, its home since the inaugural 1934 event, but the usual sheen of green will not be accented with the blooming azaleas, dogwoods and other spring flora of east-central Georgia. The autumn dates typically reach the mid-to-high 60s, slightly cooler than the spring weather associated with the Masters.
Tiger Woods, who is looking for a PGA Tour-record 83rd career victory, will be the defending champion. The purse has not been announced, but the Masters typically pays one of the largest prize funds in golf.
