Slow-play penalty costs Klara Spilkova at Women’s PGA

Czech player incurs 2-stroke penalty and misses cut by 1 shot

Penalized: Klara Spilkova, for slow play during the second round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship on Friday in Newtown Square, Pa. The two-stroke penalty, handed out on the par-4 15th hole at Aronimink Golf Club, changed her apparent par to a double-bogey 6. She parred the final three holes for a 3-over 73 and missed the 36-hole cut by one stroke, at 7-over 147. In a report by Golfweek’s Beth Ann Nichols, the LPGA handed out one slow-play penalty and seven pace-of-play fines last year. The PGA of America oversees the Women's PGA event, which is part of the LPGA Tour. Spilkova, 25, a second-year LPGA member from the Czech Republic, has made only three cuts in 11 starts this season, featured by a T-8 at the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio in January. She is ranked No. 266 in the world. Spilkova is a one-time winner on her home Ladies European Tour.
