Coronavirus claims another top amateur event

The 2021 Latin America Amateur Championship, which had been set for January in Peru, will not be played, organizers announce

Canceled: The 2021 Latin America Amateur Championship, because of complications associated with the global coronavirus pandemic, officials announced Tuesday in a news release. The tournament had been scheduled for Jan. 14-17 at Lima Golf Club in Peru’s capital. The Latin America Amateur, which originated in 2014 and traditionally has given the winner invitations to the Masters, British Open, U.S. Amateur and British Amateur, is run by the USGA, R&A and the Masters Tournament.
