Former deputy commissioner takes over for Selwyn Nathan as part of a broader restructuring at the South Africa-based tour
Promoted: To commissioner of the Sunshine Tour, Tom Abt, the South Africa-based tour announced in a news release. The move was effective Oct. 1. Abt was appointed as the tour’s deputy commissioner in February 2018. He succeeds Selwyn Nathan, who will remain with the Sunshine Tour as deputy chairman. The move was part of a broader restructuring across the tour’s leadership. The tour, based in Cape Town, co-sponsors three tournaments each winter with the European Tour: the Alfred Dunhill Championship, the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and the South African Open. The circuit has helped launch the careers of generations of future South African major champions, from Gary Player, Nick Price and Ernie Els to Tervor Immelman, Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen.
