Dustin Johnson will start Tour Championship with lead

By virtue of his No. 1 spot in the FedEx Cup standings, Johnson will begin season finale at 10 under in PGA Tour’s weighted scoring

Jon Rahm got the better of Dustin Johnson on Sunday in the PGA Tour's BMW Championship, but Johnson will one-up the Spaniard later this week.

In fact, Johnson will be 2 up, as in the number of strokes to start the Tour Championship.

With the PGA Tour’s second year of a weighted start to the season finale, Johnson, who leads the FedEx Cup season standings, will start Friday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta at 10 under. As if the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking needs a head start, huh? He shot 30 under to blitz the field in the Northern Trust by 11 strokes in the playoff opener, then lost the BMW only when Rahm sank a 66-foot birdie bomb on the first playoff hole.

Regardless, Johnson will begin play in the Tour Championship from the front. Here is a look at how the 30-man field will open play in the Sept. 4-7 event:

10 under: Dustin Johnson
8 under: Jon Rahm
7 under: Justin Thomas
6 under: Webb Simpson
5 under: Collin Morikawa
4 under: Daniel Berger, Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau, Sungjae Im, Hideki Matsuyama
3 under: Brendon Todd, Rory McIlroy, Patrick Reed, Xander Schauffele, Sebastian Munoz
2 under: Lanto Griffin, Scottie Scheffler, Joaquin Niemann, Tyrrell Hatton, Tony Finau
1 under: Kevin Kisner, Abraham Ancer, Ryan Palmer, Kevin Na, Marc Leishman
Even par: Cameron Smith, Viktor Hovland, Mackenzie Hughes, Cameron Champ, Billy Horschel
