Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger form power pairing for 1st and 2nd rounds at Olympia Fields

The three highest-ranked players in theFedEx Cup standings who will be competing this week at the BMW Championship will be paired together for the first two rounds at Olympia Fields (lll.) Country Club’s North Course, the PGA Tour announced late Tuesday.

Top-ranked Dustin Johnson, No. 2 Justin Thomas and No. 4 Daniel Berger will compose the 12:03 p.m. CDT group for Thursday’s first round (tee times). Webb Simpson, who is No. 3 in the standings, withdrew Tuesday.

Johnson returned to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking this week after his dominating 11-stroke victory in the Northern Trust, the opener to the PGA Tour playoffs. That victory also elevated him to the top of the season standings entering the final two playoff events. Thomas is the Tour’s only three-time winner this season, with his most recent victory coming four weeks ago at the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Berger won at Colonial in the Tour’s season restart in June after a three-month suspension because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 69-man field at the BMW Championship will compete for a $9.5 million purse, with $1.71 million going to the winner. For the BMW Championship’s first- and second-round tee times, click here.
