Englishman played in 1983 Ryder Cup and finished runner-up to Greg Norman in 1986 British Open at Turnberry
Died: England’s Gordon J. Brand, a one-time winner on the European Tour and a former Ryder Cup player, according to a tour report Tuesday. He was 65 and had suffered from an undisclosed short illness, the tour reported. Brand played in the 1983 Ryder Cup and won the 1989 Volvo Belgian Open, his lone victory in 26 years on his home tour. He won seven times on Africa’s Safari Tour from 1981 to 1990 and five times on Europe’s senior tour in 2006-08. He was runner-up to Greg Norman in the 1986 British Open at Turnberry.
