6 of world’s top 20 to compete in Greensboro as PGA Tour prepares for final tournament before playoffs next week
Six of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will tee it up this week at the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C. Play begins Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club, a 1925 Donald Ross design.
No. 6-ranked Webb Simpson, a North Carolinian who grew up in Raleigh and played college golf at Wake Forest in nearby Winston-Salem, is a former champion who enters as a betting favorite. No. 7 Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed (9), Tommy Fleetwood (13), Justin Rose (17) and Paul Casey (19) also are entered in the field.
J.T. Poston, who grew up about 100 miles west of Greensboro, in Hickory, and played college golf at Western Carolina, will be the defending champion.
Tee times were released Tuesday.
The tournament will be the final stop on the Tour’s revised 2020 schedule before the three-tournament playoffs begin next week in suburban Boston.
