2020 PGA Championship: Purse, winner's share, prize money

Winner will receive $1.98 million in richest payout of the 2019-20 season so far, but next month’s U.S. Open likely will pay more

The winner of this week’s PGA Championship will receive $1.98 million from the $11 million purse, according to the PGA of America. The rest of the prize-money breakdown was unavailable Wednesday.

Play begins Thursday at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco (tee times).

The first-place prize will be the richest on the PGA Tour this season. The Players Championship, which was canceled after the first round March 12 amid the widening coronavirus pandemic, would have paid $2.25 million from a $15 million purse. In last week’s WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational, winner Justin Thomas earned $1.82 million from a $10.5 million prize fund.

The prize money at next month’s U.S. Open is expected to surpass this week’s PGA. Last year, U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland earned $2.25 million from a $12.5 million purse.
