2020 PGA Championship: 1st-round tee times announced

Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy form featured pairing at TPC Harding Park

Justin Thomas, who recently ascended to No. 1 in the world ranking, will be paired with fellow major champions Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in Thursday’s first round of this week’s PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, according to the tee times that were released Tuesday.

Thomas, 27, won last week’s WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational to return to the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, which he had held for four weeks in mid-2018. Woods, the reigning Masters champion, is seeking to become the all-time winner on the PGA Tour. He is tied with the late Sam Snead at 82. McIlroy, the former world No. 1, is a four-time major champion, including the 2012 and 2014 PGAs. They will be paired at 8:33 a.m. PDT off the 10th tee.

Just ahead of the Thomas-Woods-McIlroy pairing off the 10th tee, another group of former major champions will play. Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose and Dustin Johnson will tee off at 8:22 on the back nine.

In another featured pairing, former PGA champions Jason Day (2015), Jason Dufner (2013) and Martin Kaymer (2010) were paired in the 7:38 a.m. group off the 10th tee. Three more former PGA champions – Davis Love III (1997), Jimmy Walker (2016) and Keegan Bradley (2011) – were grouped in the 1:42 p.m. pairing off the 10th tee.

Three of the game’s reigning major champions – Brooks Koepka (2018 and 2019 PGAs), Shane Lowry (2019 British Open) and Gary Woodland (2019 U.S. Open) will be grouped at 8:11 a.m. off No. 10.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker can get a closeup of emerging American talent Daniel Berger and Xander Schauffele in the 7:49 a.m. pairing off the 10th tee.
