Davis Love III pulls plug on TV career

Love, 56, a 21-time winner on the PGA Tour who joined CBS late last year after the network fired longtime on-air talent Gary McCord and Peter Kostis, intends to focus on his playing career

Ended: By Davis Love III, his role as an on-course reporter with CBS at PGA Tour telecasts, he announced on Twitter. Love, 56, a 21-time winner on the PGA Tour and a World Golf Hall of Fame member, was hired in late October after the network chose not to renew the contracts of longtime on-course analysts Gary McCord and Peter Kostis. Love was widely panned in his brief TV role. Love intends to focus more on his playing career. He has missed seven cuts in eight starts this season on the PGA Tour and tied for 19th in his only Champions Tour appearance, in January in Hawaii. In March, his family home on St. Simons Island, Ga., was destroyed by fire. Love, who won the 1997 PGA Championship, will be entered in next week’s PGA at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
