2020 WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational: Viewer’s guide, TV times, how to watch

Golf Channel and CBS to split duties again as elite field rolls into Memphis' TPC Southwind for final tuneup before season’s 1st major championship

The PGA Tour moves to steamy Memphis, Tenn., this week for the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Journeyman Michael Thompson earned a spot in the elite field with his second career victory at last week’s 3M Open.

Seventeen of the top 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking will be among the 78 players competing in the first World Golf Championships tournament since the WGC Mexico in February (tee times). The $10.5 million no-cut event will award $1.82 million to the winner on the eve of the revised season’s first major championship, next week’s PGA.

Because so little has been normal in this upside-down year of COVID-19, it will be interesting to see so many top players competing the week before the PGA at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Of the top 20 players in the world ranking, only No. 9 Adam Scott, No. 15 Tiger Woods and No. 17 Justin Rose are not entered this week.

American Brooks Koepka, who has slipped from No. 1 in the world ranking to start the year to sixth, will be the defending champion for the next two weeks. Koepka shot 16-under 264 for a three-stroke victory last year at TPC Southwind.

Weather could play a role this week. Along with the usual hot and humid summer conditions in the Bluff City, thunderstorms are forecast during the first two rounds. Lower scores on a softer course could be the result.

Once again, the TV broadcast will be handled by Golf Channel and CBS. Fans should expect little change until next week at the PGA Championship.

The first and second rounds will be shown by Golf Channel. The weekend rounds will feature early coverage from Golf Channel before CBS picks up the action in the afternoon. All times are EDT.
