With next week’s PGA Championship looming, Woods will skip this week’s WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational to avoid playing in consecutive weeks
Tweeted: By Tiger Woods, that he will skip this week’s WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. The news, announced via Twitter, was widely anticipated because the tournament, at TPC Southwind, is one week ahead of the season’s first major championship, and Woods prefers not to compete in consecutive weeks. Woods will play the PGA on Aug. 6-9 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Woods, 44, a four-time PGA champion, was No. 14 in the Official World Golf Ranking. In his only appearance since the PGA Tour returned to competition in early June after a three-month hiatus because of the global coronavirus pandemic, Woods tied for 40th at the Memorial Tournament. He has competed only four times in the 2019-20 season, including a victory at the inaugural Zozo Championship on Oct. 27. He also served as a player-captain on the winning American team in the Presidents Cup in December. Woods remains tied with Sam Snead for the all-time victory total on the PGA Tour, with 82.
